Gray is silver at Mackenzie Investments WC; Romanin best Canadian in men's SL

WHISTLER, B.C. – Selina Egloff of Switzerland remained unbeaten in U16 women’s competition while Cassidy Gray of Panorama, B.C. won silver on Saturday in slalom action at the Mackenzie Investments Whistler Cup alpine skiing competition. 

Egloff took her third gold this week clocking a two-run time of one minute and 31.27 seconds. Gray followed in 1:32.17 and Aline Hoepli of Switzerland was third in 1:33.40. The 15-year-old Egloff also won the super G on Thursday and the giant slalom on Friday. 

‘’I never thought coming here that I could win,’’ said Egloff.

Cassidy missed the podium by a mere 0.01 seconds on Thursday in the super G.

‘’Getting on the podium was my objective this week,’’ she said. ‘’I’m so excited I made it especially with the depth of field here and some of the top international skiers in my age group.’’ 

Sarah Bennett of was fourth in 1:34.63, Tara Hoshizaki of Edmonton fifth in 1:34.85, Alice Marchessault of Ste-Anne-des-Lacs, Que., ninth in 1:35.54 and Maja Woolley of Squamish, B.C. 10th in 1:35.58.

In the men’s U16 slalom, Patrick von Siebenthal of Switzerland was the victor in 1:30.47, Andreas Amdahl of Norway second in 1:32.46 and Henry Heaydon of Australia third in 1:33.01.  

‘’I was very confident going into the second run,’’ said von Siebenthal. ‘’Slalom is my best event.’’ 

Nathan Romanin of Squamish was fifth in 1:33.84, Thomas Bilodeau of Coreau-du-Lac, Que., sixth in 1:34.66, Kieran Harley of Whistler seventh in 1:34.72, James Small of Alberta ninth in 1:34.80 and Logan Dunn of Alberta10th in 1:34.98.

Competition ends Sunday with the inaugural U16 Team Event.
